(FROM http://uqm.stack.nl/wiki/Star_Control_II):
QUOTE
Star Control II, the sequel to the original Star Control, is a space adventure game that features role-playing elements alongside a robust 2D combat system. It was a milestone for non-linear gaming and an undeniable influence on modern space travel games such as Homeworld; many consider it one of the best computer games of all time. The player assumes the role of the captain of a single starship wandering a detailed environment of solar systems, gradually gathering information and resources in order to defeat a mysterious and implacable enemy; the plot contains numerous mysteries and other half-explained elements that contribute to the beauty of the game, along with a rare sense of humor that manifests numerous times, inevitably having the player rolling on the floor laughing.

GP2XTouch: Touchscreen News - "Scummvm: 0.11.0 'preview 3' Release"

Source: GP32X

"submitted by DJWillis @ (10:12) 08 Jan 2008

Just a quick news post to point out that I have done another 0.11.0 preview release (this really is the last one I hope before the official 0.11.0 release).

You can find more information on my ScummVM news page.

Thanks to Manjuu and SBock for the help testing the fixes in the preview 3 build.

Any feedback on this release would be most appreciated as I am unable to test myself.

How to provide feedback?

In order to help me keep track of requests, bugs etc. I am asking that people kindly report such issues to the correct places (or at least copy them there). I don't spend all my time looking at forums and bug reports placed on random internet forums are never very helpful to me (i.e. they are very unlikely to get fixed). The same applies to feature requests etc. etc.

If you would like me to consider a feature or fix a bug help me to help you by ensuring the reports end up recorded in the one official place.Note: Feature Requests for 0.11.0 are closed but any requests will be looked at for the next release.

GP2X News: "Sqdef 1.2"

Source: GP32X

"submitted by Alex. @ (15:11) 06 Jan 2008

Sqdef is a tower defense game for the GP2X. The goal is to prevent enemies from getting from one side of the map to the other by placing towers along their way. Visit the Sqdef microsite for more info. Note that none of the files from the old versions work, so this will need a 100% clean install. Sqdef is compatible with all GP2X models.

1.2 is a very important milestone, with a lot of new features and refinements to old ones:

-> improved game balance (including dynamic pricing for the more special items)
-> new graphics
-> special towers that boost the damage of every tower in range
-> fast-forward speed increased from 3x to 5x
-> bonus 60-wave mode after winning all three medals on a map
-> detailed score break-down at the end of every game
-> on-GP2X map editor, with everything you need to make new levels!
-> easily manageable map packs
-> you can download more map packs from the game's site, as well as make your own and share them with us!
-> clear and concise readme.txt that explains everything there is to know about Sqdef

If you enjoy playing Sqdef, please consider making a PayPal donation to support its development! There's a PayPal button on my site. Any amount is appreciated, and in return I will add your name or nickname to the game’s credits. smile.gif

Please let me know of any new maps you make (or better yet, post them here). It would be great to put together a GP32x map pack where each map was made by a different member of our community smile.gif Additionally, if you make a pack of three or more maps, I'll put it up on the site as a download. Speaking of new maps, many thanks go to Prairiefire, who designed 10 of the 16 new maps in this release!"

GP2X News: "The Gp2x And Wind And Water Go To The Gdc!"

Source: GP32X

"submitted by Yuan @ (05:24) 06 Jan 2008

Hi, everyone!

Every year the IGF awards innovation in gaming, but for the first time mobile and handheld games are eligible, and Wind and Water: Puzzle Battles has been nominated as a finalist in the Inaugural IGF Mobile Competition!

IPB Image

Click here to see the IGF Moblie finalists!

All of the finalists will be showing their games at the IGF Pavilion during Game Developers Conference held in San Francisco on February 2008, and of course, we will be there showcasing the GP2X with our game! For those who don't know, the GDC is the largest annual gathering of professional video game developers.

We were nominated in the Audio Achievement category, along with Critter Crunch for Java and Drawn to Life for the Nintendo DS. We hope we're lucky enough to obtain one of the inaugural prices, but even if we don't, because of this the GP2X has raised much interest among a big part of the industry that didn't really know its potential (or even that it existed)!

Also, we have updated our website with a new BBS, because we would love to have your feedback on the official W&W website. It's located here!

We would like to take this chance to thank all current (and future) Wind and Water players all over the world for your continuous support!

Anyone going to the GDC, be sure to drop by our stand for some W&W matches! biggrin.gif"

"submitted by DaveC @ (04:40) 05 Jan 2008

Here are all of the CAD files for the N-gage QD D-pad mod that I did. It includes all gerber and exellon files for PCB manufacture as well as 3D CAD models for the pad mod itself. Do what you want with these. Mod them for your own use, reproduce and sell them and make a fortune, they are now public domain smile.gif

I realize that not everyone can use these but if you can have fun.

New In The GP2X Archive: Beat2x Beat Generator v3 for Linux

A new release in the GP2X FILE ARCHIVE:

Beat2x Beat Generator v3 for Linux
Archive Section: Linux
Author: AndrewTheArt
Version: 3.0 Linux
"AndrewTheArt's Beat2x Beat Generator v3 - Linux Edition (ported to Mono!)

What it is

**********

A very simple "step file" (.bxe) generator for the Beat2x interpreter, ported to Mono by AndrwewTheArt. This version run in Mono in Linux, and behaves exactly the same as the Windows versions that runs with the .NET Framework. It provides no real useful functionality from the Windows version (although there are minor differences, read the Updates/Enhancements section)

It basically plays any .wav, .mp3, .ogg , and possily other formats (any format that mplayer accepts), while allowing you to create a .bxe file simultaneously with some key presses. It certainly beats going into Audacity and looking for the milliseconds.

Requirements and Notes

***********

This version requires and performs correctly with the following packages-

(1) mono-core (version 1.2.5)
(2) mono-winforms (version 1.2.5)
(3) mplayer (version 1.0rc2, although most if not all versions should theoretically work) (check in the packman repository)

If I have left out a requirement, please forgive me. If this program does not run with these requirements, install more mono packages as you see fit. However, I am fairly certain it will run with these installed.

To determine what versions of the above programs you do or do not have installed either click on the "Help/About" box at the top roght of the program or open up a console and type in things like mono --version, mplayer --version ...etc. You package manager should assist you here greatly.

Updates/Enhancements as of 6/17/07

***********

The Linux version of the Beat Generator provides no new real functionality from the Windows version of the Beat Generator. However, I would like to point out -

(1) Using mplayer should allow you to playback virtually any file format.
(2) There is much more Linux- centric exception catching in this version, for things like file permissions, etc
(3) The "Help/About" button on the top right displays basic information about your mono and mplayer version - useful for debugging purposes.
